Lost? Here’s how you can find yourself
When you’re feeling lost it can affect every area of your life. You won’t feel motivated, won’t want to get out of your bed and may feel sad or depressed. In this video you’re going to learn different ways that will take you on the journey of self discovery.
Reflect on your values
Start by reflecting on your values and beliefs which is an important step in finding yourself. It involves exploring the fundamental principles and convictions that guide your life, and understanding what really matters to you. One popular book that explores this topic is “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. Covey introduces the concept of “beginning with the end in mind”, which means defining your personal mission statement and aligning your actions and decisions with your values and principles.
By exploring what is truly important to you, you can gain clarity on your priorities and goals, and find a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment in life. One of the best was to do this is to start to write your thoughts and daily journals are a great way to do this. Check out the Journey Within: Mindfulness Journal which gives daily prompts for reflection. If you’ve never written in a journal before it’s going to seem weird. But stick with it and watch how much it improves the quality of your life.
Explore different interests
Exploring your interests is an important part of the journey of self-discovery. It can help you identify what brings you joy, what you are passionate about, and what you want to pursue in life. By focusing on what is truly essential, we can achieve greater clarity, effectiveness, and fulfillment in all aspects of our lives. Deep Work by Cal Newport talks about how finding and pursuing our interests requires a deep focus and sustained effort. He suggests that by cultivating the ability to concentrate deeply on a single task, we can achieve more meaningful and fulfilling work, and ultimately, a more satisfying life.
Build strong relationships
Building strong relationships with others is another important aspect of self-discovery. It can help us understand our own values and beliefs, and foster a sense of connection and community. When you start meeting more people it opens you up to the experiences of others, gaining insights into things that they enjoy. We are social beings and if you’re lost, meeting people can help break you out of your shell and can lead to different work opportunities and hobbies that can get you back on track in your life.
Take Care of Yourself
Taking care of our physical and mental health is another essential aspect of self-discovery. It can help us feel more grounded, focused, and energized, and can also help us better understand our own needs and limitations. You have to start exercising in some way every single day. Weight training can help to transform your body by helping to relieve aches and pains. Eating a balanced diet is also important. You are what you eat and if you’re consuming too much sugar or processed foods, it will make you feel terrible.
Get Involved in your Community
This can look different for everyone, but when you’re feeling lost, start to help other people. Volunteer to help clean up a park, help out at a soup kitchen or a local non-profit. When we volunteer our time and resources to help others, we are contributing to a greater good and making a positive impact on the world around us. By giving back to the community, we can shift our focus outward and gain a greater sense of purpose and perspective.
Embrace Change
Change is going to happen in our lives and you can either be responsible for the changes happening or go dragged, kicking and screaming. By embracing change, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and experiences that can help us discover our true passions and strengths. This can help us build confidence and self-efficacy, which are important qualities for success in all areas of life.
One of the easiest things you can do to begin to discover yourself is to start reading books. They can give you great ideas on how to optimize your life.
