Habits that improved my mental health

Working towards improving your mental health can be a challenge. There are a number of habits you can begin to use in order to put yourself in a better head space with some being easy while others are a bit more of a difficult to implement. In this video you’re going to learn habits you can incorporate into your life for better mental health!

Limiting screen time

We’ve become addicted to electronic devices, like phones, computers, or tv. Too much screen time can have a negative impact on mental health, leading to feelings of anxiety, stress, and depression. Excessive screen time can interfere with sleep, reduce physical activity, and lead to eye strain, poor posture and headaches.

Connect with others

The lone wolf mentality.. being by yourself whether that’s because you’re introverted or because you have trouble trusting people. We are social beings and spending too much time alone can be detrimental to our mental health.  You want to be around people that raise you up and not bring you down. People who are positive, not people who focus on negativity. Small minds talk about people while great minds talk about ideas.

Find a healthy outlet for stress

This is an important habit for maintaining good mental health. Stress can have a negative impact on our physical and mental health, and it’s important to find ways to manage it effectively. It’s important to find an outlet that works for you and that you enjoy.

Exercise regularly

Physical activity has been shown to have a significant impact on reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Physical activity can take many forms, from traditional exercise routines like running or weightlifting, to more passive forms like yoga or tai chi. The key is to find an activity that you enjoy and can stick to, whether that’s joining a gym, taking up a sport, or simply going for a daily walk.

Eat a healthy diet

The foods you eat can have a significant impact on how you feel. That in turn has an effect on your mental health. If you’re struggling to eat a healthy diet, consider seeking the help of a  nutritionist or dietician, who can help you develop a plan that works for you.

Engage in self-care

Self-care refers to the activities and practices that you do to take care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. The key here is to find ways to be able to manage your stress levels. Exercise, hiking, driving and journaling work for me but maybe yoga, meditation, walks and walking through an art gallery would work for you. By taking care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being, you can improve overall health and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

Practice gratitude

Gratitude is the practice of being thankful for the things you have in your life, and expressing appreciation for them. There are different ways to practice gratitude, depending on your preferences and lifestyle.  Practicing gratitude can have a profound impact on mental health. By focusing on the things you are grateful for, you can shift your focus away from negative thoughts and feelings, and improve overall well-being.

Practice mindfulness

Meditation is one of the best ways to start building up mindfulness. And it’s a tough habit to start because so many people have trouble sitting in silence. Volunteering or helping others can also have other benefits, such as building relationships with others, and making a positive impact on your community.

Seek professional help

If you are struggling with mental health concerns, such as depression, anxiety, or stress, it’s important to reach out for help if everything else you’ve tried hasn’t helped. There are other resources available, like support groups, online resources, and self-help books. It’s important to find what works best for you, and to seek help when you need it.
