10 Effective Ways to Stay Motivated
Finding the motivation to keep going when things don’t make sense can be a challenge but pushing forward can be easier than you think. Whether you’re struggling to complete a project, finish that social media post or building that business here are 10 effective ways to stay motivated that actually work.
1. Define your goal
Without a clear picture of what you want, how can you move towards accomplishing it? Think in ink and write down the goals that you’re chasing. Be specific with the goal that you’re working towards.
2. Break down your goals
An important key to accomplishing your goals is to break down larger goals into smaller and easier to obtain steps. By breaking down your larger goals it makes checking off the smaller steps satisfying and lets you know that you’re moving towards making it happen/
3. Figure out your why
Why do you want to accomplish the goals you’ve set? Is it for financial security? To do better for your family? Be clear on why you want to accomplish your goals. Your why will keep you motivated and give you the drive you need to keep moving forward .
4. Paint a picture
Vision boards are an excellent way to ensure you’re moving towards your goals. Visualizing what you want can help keep you motivated when things aren’t going as planned.
5. Stop multitasking
A study conducted at Stanford University found that multitasking is less productive than doing a single task. Focus on the task at hand. A useful trick is to spend 25 minutes working on a subject, followed by a 5 minute break, then repeat until your goal for the day is done.
6. Give yourself a deadline
Remember in school how you’d have deadlines for papers or projects? As the deadline approached chances are you put yourself into high gear to get it done. By giving yourself a deadline, you have a hard stop on when a task needs to be accomplished.
7. Procrastinate later
Don’t make excuses when you aren’t starting or completing each step. Work towards figuring out the reason why you’re procrastinating.
8. Ditch your distractions
You need to find a way to limit the distractions that are keeping you from accomplishing your goals so that you can stay focused. You need to create the best environment to do your best work and sometimes that means removing things from your life that are taking up too much of your time or attention.
9. Be optimistic
A belief that a goal can be accomplished can help move you towards making that goal a reality. When you have a bad day, a video or social post that doesn’t get the views you were expecting or whatever life throws your way just know that it’s part of the process. Learn from it and be excited you get to try again.
10. Reward yourself
Once you’ve broken up your goal into easier to complete steps, give yourself a reward for each level of completion. By rewarding yourself each time you complete a milestone it will make each new step you’re working towards that much more exciting.
Motivation starts from within, it starts by taking action. When we make decisions, they’re influenced by our motivational state. It can help us take action, improve our efficiency and lead to a better quality of life. I’d recommend reading the book Think like a Monk by Jay Shetty – you can pick it up here:
